It is 107 km from Leh and on the way to Srinagar. The mind blowing view of Moon land is visible from here .This monastery has been constructed by Mahasiddhacharya Naropa in 10th century. Best time to visit this place is from June to September.You can travel by your own or hired vehicle or by public transport bus from Leh or Kargil at 10 am daily. HEMIS MONASTERY 03:01 Hemis Gompa, the largest and richest Buddhist monastery in Leh when i reached there the popular yearly festival day called Hemis Festival was going on. During the festival, The Lamas perform sacred masked dance, known as Chaam while they are accompanied by musical drums, long horns and cymbals. This is an extremely well-known festival. The most mysterious form of celebration is mask dances. Chams performance is a fundamental a part of Tantric tradition.
