UK wage inequality women paid less than men

16 ratings | 1891 views
Politicians in the UK are to vote on a law which will force companies to publish what they pay men and women. It's designed to reduce wage inequality that still exists in one of Europe's richest economies. Al Jazeera's Simon McGregor-Wood reports from London. So are they comparing apples to apples? Comparable experience in the SAME job, education, etc? I know in the US, the statistics lump many jobs in the same category, despite risk. They also don't factor experience or years in service. The other side of the coin is people under 35. From what I've been reading, women under 35 are actually making MORE than their male counterparts. There are certainly more women in college, and a higher percentage go on to graduate. I'm willing to bet that a decade from now, we'll see women in general out-earning men.

Men get paid more, because men work harder and they are not cry babies!

Is it really true that women are payed less an hour than men? or could it be that women just work less and therefore their annual income is lower?

Well I have never worked in a place where women get paid less so my guess is it's in the finance industries? It's certainly not in the unskilled job markets.

If women are paid less than men, why would companies hire men ?

Because they have fewer rights, companies always looking for cheap labour they can just sent off without a word of retaliation. If I owned a company I wouldn't want any women because hiring men is cheaper and they're quiet.

The question here is are you comparing men and women in the same company or just in general. Men are more likely to work in Science, technology, engineering and mathematics jobs so WILL as a whole get paid more.  Obfuscation of this truth because of some discrepancies in a few companies cannot change this.
